what are your guys' thoughts on performance, when running both OS X and Vista at the same time using Parallels in coherence mode?

For the most part it's been fine, but on occasion it lags like mad... and i've got a Macbook Pro. :-/

I dunno from personal experience, but from what I understand, vista requires full hardware acceleration of the video hardware to use Aero or wtf they call their new interface. Parallels lacks video hardware acceleration, so I'm sure that wouldn't work. I'm running XP under parallels on my 1st gen MBP (Core Duo), and it's somewhat laggy sometimes, even with 2gb RAM. I plan on upgrading to a 200gb HDD soon and setting up a bootcamp partition so I can choose to run XP natively, or through virtualization. I have no plans on touching Vista with a 10ft pole. Altogether, some lag is to be expected. Vista, surely being more of a resource hog than XP, would undoubtedly perform worse than a comporably configured XP install. Hell, I'm even considering loading 2K, as it shares the same core as XP, but doesn't have a lot of the baggage. I'm somewhat undecided at this point though :dunno:

XP. Good luck running Vista virtualized when it sucks with bootcamp. Also, if you do Vista home, it says in the TOS not to run it virtually at all.

I've got a 17" MBP CD with 1 GB RAM. I need to upgrade my ram though. I got a 4.5 rating when I was running Business. It ran ok, but I could imagine it being very slow virtualized

I've got 1GB RAM on a MB. I first had Vista Ultimate in Parallels with XP on Boot Camp, which was ok. I've since switched it up to Vista Ultimate in Boot Camp and TinyXP in Parallels which is 200x better and now I get glass in Vista. :coold:

    You got it

I have Parallels mostly so I can fire up Microsoft Streets & Trips at a moment's notice in the car, run Office 2k7, use my Nintendo DS homebrew shit that doesn't have OSX equivalents, that sort of thing. Boot Camp is for Company of Heroes, Counterstrike, etc.
