Just built a new system and for some reason I'm getting an error upon installing WinXP. The error is BAD_POOL_HEADER.

Only thing I can think of is I originally tried installling with 98 and then planned on using an upgrade to XP disc. But I suppose the computer technology has advanced to far for it as it kept freezing halfway through 98. I would assume I need to format the harddrive to get around my errors but I can't figure out how to do it since I'm stuck halfway through an installation.

I'm sure somebody here will have some ideas.

Grab a DOS floppy disk. Boot off of that. Fdisk, format, and be on your way.

forceshutdown your computer by holding down the power button
boot from your XP cd. if it doesnt, youll have to enter the BIOS and set the optical drive as the first boot device
you can use the utilities on the disk to format and un/create partitions
