I just got my camera and card reader and had a question. How do you guys organize your photos? I've started making separate folders for different subjects. But what about the individual files, do you rename them or keep the default name?

Date (year) >Subject(cars, wedding, portrait, party, meet, etc.)> Date&Specific Subject

Individual files i wont rename unless its for a specific customer.

I rarely rename the individual files but in that rare occassion, I rename them as the folder name then a number sequentially.

not to shit on your ideas, but I don't feel the need to put dates on my folders, just the year. all the extra info is in the EXIF if you really need to know the exact date.

it's just to organize the storage.. not provide info on pics.

viewing the folder itself in my computer or something I can find stuff pretty easily.. which means I can copy stuff or backup stuff for other people to view easily

or if I view it in picasa I can search for the event type.. like "wedding" or "birthday", etc or by names of the people involved (like whose birthday or wedding, etc). kinda like having tags.. which picasa doesn't support yet. I wish picasa did people/face tagging, tho, cause I don't have a good replacement for that

I'm using the Adobe Lightroom beta right now to organize photos on my mac. It works pretty well. Give you the option of adding keywords (for metadata) and keeps a database for searching later.
