After fucking around yesterday trying to deal with my boss's credit report being frozen (therefore barring us from being able to finance my new work laptop)... i hope to place the order today. Here's what i'm plannin on getting.

    ThinkPad T61 15.4" WSXGA+
    C2D T7500 2.2GHz
1GB RAM (going to upgrade to 4GB on my own, Lenovo wanted $400, yet newegg has it for $270
    100GB HDD
    DVD Recordable
    6 cell battery
    ThinkPad Advanced Mini-Dock
    Extra power adapter
    ThinkPad Carry Case - Expander
    Vista Ultimate
    Fingerprint reader
    NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB)
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Bluetooth (never used it, but what the hell)

Anything else i should be needing... or wanting? I havent bought a laptop in forever... so I'm sure there are some fun things i might want, but just cant remember.

Honestly, I wish everyone would take a look at their resource usage before they consider 4gb of memory.

I bet 95% of people will not use over 2gb, even in Vista.

Should i up it to the 9cell? I am very leary of ending up with a heavy computer. I have an Inspiron 9100 behemoth now, and the last thing i want is something heavy. Will the 9cell change weight that much?

Meh, very possibly true... but i'm still getting 4gb.

Yea, getting that... didnt write it up top... d'oh!

Reealistically you'll be lucky to get 2 hours with a 6 cell.

Also, can anyone justify spending the extra $330 on the T7800 (2.6GHz 800MHz 4MBL2) vs the T7500 (2.2GHz 800MHz 4MBL2), which is kinda the 'norm' cpu i had based things on previously?

I'd stick with the 2.2GHz, if it were me.

    Definitely get the 9-cell.

Yea... even for a company computer, i can't justify $330 more dollars, for a few extra GHz.

Well... my boss is being a bitch about things... and it doesnt look like i'll be getting this laptop anyways. His credit is frozen b/c of some past fraud on one of his CCs, and he cant seem to find a way to fix it. Now, the financing he was going to use at Lenovo is over (or will be on Sunday)... so i'm just giving up on the whole 'new computer' thing all together.

Speaking of that, I saw a laptop recently with the standard motherboard socket for Core 2 Duo. So you could get whatever cpu you wanted right off the shelf. I forget if it was maybe Asus.

IMHO you order the wrong one.

I just got my ThinkPad x61 12" and it blows every laptop I have ever had away.

Battery life is insane, I get up to 7 hours consistently and it is blazing fast. I ordered with XP because Vista doesn't yet support what I need it to.

Plus it is so much smaller and lighter to carry than the rest of the thinkpad series.

First thing you should do when you get it is kill the HD and re-install the OS to get rid of all of Lenono's bloatware.

DO not upgrade the screen size, I did and it made my fucking T60 a clunky POS, also, Lenovo tech support socks the large one.

The software that came with mine for the TPM / Finerprint scanner created its own supervisor BIOS password that I cannot figure out/ change/ w/e for the life of me and Lenovo after having my laptop for a little over 2 weeks informed me that it was going to cost 845 to fix as they were going to replace the mobo, I told them to fuck themselves and shit it back..... 3 year warranty my ass, Just gonna have to wait until this fucker dies on me know.
(I have one of the first T60 models with the intel core duo)
