Gonna order the 30D with kit lens from B&H sometime this week.

Going to pick up a 58mm UV filter (although, wondering if I shouldn't just get the UV/Warming/Polarizer filter kit they have listed).

Going to stick with the kit lens for a couple months until I decide what will make my best choice for my first 'good glass' purchase.

Have a tripod I can make due with for the time being.

Gotta find CF cards yet. Brand reccomendations? Probably pick up a couple 1GB or 2GB cards.

Think I'll go with a hard case as well. Found a nice one locally for $120 that'll easily fit the camera, a couple lenses, and cards/straps/etc. Anything else online for reccomendations? Don't need anything particularly fancy or indestructable, just sturdier than a bag.

I would get one or two 2GB cards. I think Sandisk and Kingston have some of the better deals out right now.

    Spare battery.

I've got a buddy who got his 'hookup' through best buy :)ugh:), 2GB card for $60 - see if I can get in on that. Otherwise I'll have to do some browsing I guess and pick up atleast one card (and a reader for the laptop - damn toshiba 6 in 1 doesn't read CF).

I'll have to add an extra battery to the list.

You sure about sticking with the kit lens? I opted for the 28-105mm f/3.4-4.5 and I love it as a walk around. You just loose the wide end, but I don't shoot wide often enough to care, I'll get a wide prime possibly later on.

Ditch the kit lense....you will be much happier in the end....

I picked up a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 for my 350D.....and anyone here can vouch that its the best bang for the buck lense out there

Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 from the start and you'll be happy. Once you see how soft and slow the kit lens is, you'll ditch it in a few weeks any way.

suprisingly, i haven't had trouble running out of battery yet, even with shooting 3gb of raw flash photos (body flash). i dont carry a spare..

wow you got ripped off if you bought a kit lens for $1200, moron.

the kit lens is a piece of shit lens that can bad had for $100 bucks. i wouldn't bother buying a UV filter for it.

get the 30D body, and the tamron lens, spare battery, some memory cards.

well that's 3 different lens reccomendations. I've tried to decide what's a good first lens (aside from the kit) but everyone here has differing opinions and I don't have time to search elsewhere - basically why I decided to go with the kit until I've got time to do more digging. Another thing with why I wanted to wait, curious to see what I need for reach and how close a 55mm gets me to where I need to be. Maybe I'll find out I have no real need (yet) for a 200/300mm lens.

But here's something I'm unfamiliar with being still relatively new to photography and new to the DSLR world. The f2.8 lenses, are those fixed apertures or is that a maximum aperture? If it's a fixed aperture, you lose the ability to play with depth of field (atleast easily) correct?

Well then, going to order body only here in a little bit and pick up a Tamron f2.8 28-75 (maybe at Ritz Locally, B&H doesn't list it). Hopefully have enough reach to make me happy for a while and then look into a wider lens for my next pick-up.

Anyone want to stop me before I do? :big grin:

    Filters...
One in the same with different names? I could pick one up locally for cheap.

Probalby pick up a card locally. If nothing else pick up a 'decent' 1GB for now and order a highspeed 2GB later. (I'm already way over budget)

    Get aother battery later.

Tripod/head I want is out of budget so I'll make due with what I've got for now.

Still thinking about the case locally. No online reccomendations? Want one big enough to hold the 30D with grip (another later purchase) and a short lens mounted as well as a couple extra lenses and accessories.
