im currently doing my 2nd round of p90x (current goal is to slim down)

is it a good idea to take a few protein shakes? or will this be counter productive?

Read nutrition sticky...but yes, you want to get a good portion of your calories coming from protein, both powder and solid food. Multiply bodyweight times ~13 to get a general idea of where to start for calories per day, and bodyweight times 1-1.5 for grams of protein per day.

    :eek3: thank u

i was also told protein = 1 gram per pound of body weight.

so calories (which i know nothing about) body weight x 13... that helps

Diet is pretty much always the most important factor in making progress. You can work your ass off all you want, but if your diet isn't in check, don't expect great results. This is why I suggest you read through the whole nutrition sticky. :)

You talking about a protein shake or just mixing the protein in water? The P90X nutrition guide calls for a "recovery drink" once per day with a meal in addition to your Post Workout drink. If you take it as a shake (milk, fruit, PB, etc) then it's more of a meal. If you take it with just water it's more of a supplement. Either way as long as you manage your macros it won't hurt you.

in that case just watch the calories and fat (unless you're using fat free) in the milk.
