optical or coaxial?

    which cable is better for audio on home theater?

    neither. use what you have on hand, or have easy access to. both types of cable will do the job just fine. coax should be cheaper, and is more rugged. my first digital audio cable was a piece of coax in a drawer that happened to have phono plugs on each end. i bought the second piece, 'cause i didnt have another chunk lying around.

    They will sound the same. However, if you need to run the cable for long distances, you will probably want to go with coaxial though. However, with optical, you cannot pick up any ground loops between the source and your amp/preamp, so thats a plus for it.
