I got the Ultra CDP II about a month ago. Took it to the range yesterday and the first mag I was shooting bulls eyes. Fit and finish is excellent.

anyone care to chime in with specific reasons why its not liked?

If you have a reason like, lets say, they stove pipe alot, or they can't handle even a little dirt , very picky with ammo, id really like to hear other than simply they suck.

I was under the impression Kimber made some pretty good stuff

i'm curious as well because all i've heard is that they suck, no real reasons as to why

and most of WMD crew says that mini14s suck, but i own one and its very reliable and accurate.

it could be alot of people just regurgitating what they've heard.

thats what im wondering as well, same reason glock gets a ton of internet hate but nobody talks shit at the range about them.

one or two bad guns in the right hands can ruin a reputation

    so id like specifics.

    Shenanigens ( sp )

would you ming listing one more time why in your opinion Kimber is to be avoided?

I don't own a Kimber, I was, emphasis on was considering purchasing one until you educated me. I just heard from tom dick and harry over the years that kimber was a good company. Sucks to see they have sacraficed quality for production numbers and profit, but thats capitalism.

I went out and shot a friends Kimber a couple weeks back and had fewer failures when I had the Kimber .22 upper on it than I did shooting it w/ .45.

As a matter of fact, it was fantastic with the .22 upper and less than stellar when shooting .45.

When I finally join the 1911 crew I think it's going to be Dan Wesson for myself..

Don't buy a Kimber, get something more reliable... like a Taurus!

just kidding, of course... those are hardly concealable.

  18. I seem to remember a thread recently where there were pics of a "proper" 1911 posted where manufacturing defects were shown, and people got all upset about it. My point is that a post that includes a few pics of problems from a company that makes tens of thousands of guns per year really isn't much of a concern. The fact is you don't need to go out and spend $2000+ on a 1911 when the majority of people who own them would rather talk about them than actually employ them in any sporting capacity. For the 99% of 1911 owners whose most extreme use is occasionally practicing double-taps at a range, even a Taurus is more than enough.

I have owned my fair share of them, I have only had one that I did not have a problem with one way or another and that was an old TLE II. I will probably never buy a Kimber again unless they get their shit together.

Well I was wanting to pick up a concealable gun I could start getting into USPSA with, I always liked 1911's but the one I do own is way to finicky for any kind of safe sporting with, and way to large and dangerous to carry with me loaded.

FYI by dangerous I mean it has approximatly a 1.5 to 2 pound trigger on it.
I have gotten to the point that I don't even take it to the range anymore simply because its so touchy.

My dad bought it from a friend of his whos deep into 1911 customization and its all kinds of tricked out. Now its mine and even though I have shot it many times, well over 2000 rounds through it I still get unintentional double taps at the range just trying to keep it on target during recoil.

So are their any reliable 4 inch 1911's out there ?

Probably a Dan Wesson or Springfield although one guy at work just spent the last 3 months trying to get the rust off his sprinfield stainless 1911 that he bought brand new, springfield just gave him all his money back.

Had an UC II. Had a problem straight from the factory. Got it fixed and it shot like a dream. I really liked that gun, but i ended up trading it in on a Glock. I wanted cheaper ammo and more capacity in my carry gun.

Because you seem to piss all over anything that's not some ultra-expensive custom. The fact is that the vast majority of Kimbers are just fine and have happy owners. There are very few people here that would see any benefit from a $2000 1911. You don't need to spend 2 grand to punch holes in paper at a range. I could almost see the point if you used the gun for anything else, but you've never shown any interest in anything other than 1.) talking about it, 2.) occasionally using it at a range, and 3.) using it to bash other people's "lesser" 1911s.
