what do you all think about schools where the head trainer/teacher is a black belt, but now only teaches nogi jj?

i think its kinda weird, if i was promoted to a certain level, i would never wear the belt in nogi and i for sure know that i wouldnt be equivalent once i put the gi & belt on.

    Wirelessly posted via wap.offtopic.com (how can i make pearl masculine: BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Is this a common practice? Never heard of it... Can't fathom a legit black belt thinking that was a good idea

well, i doubt gsp puts the gi on anymore for training. but he just got his black belt.

and some GB black belt tony eduardo gives out nogi belt promotions.

I think they should promote in no gi based on your skill set just like in gi. But you should have to wear the color shorts or top that you are.

    white shorts or white shirt
    blue
    purple
    brown
    black
    black/red

    etc

i dont think it makes sense to give out belts for purely no gi. but there are a few places that do it.

frank mir gives people the shorts with a belt on it... haha

eddie bravo just tells people theyre a new belt.

chris brennan would make people wear gis just for the day they get their belt..

People thought Drysdale had something to do with the promotion too. Drysdale went out of his way to say that he wasn't involved.

I am pretty sure GSP trains in gi as well, even though he has his black belt. Training in gi makes you way more technical that no gi and its probably why the best grapplers in the world all train gi, and before a big no-gi comp they will train without the gi for a few months before putting it back on.

Thats just what i seemed to notice, and just what i have picked up from random snippets on the net with Marcelo Garcia and stuff, but i am not sure how legit the source was.
