I'm looking for a new 5 megapixel camera and my budget is $600 max. I'm considering the Canon G5 or the Olympus c5060. I also plan to use this camera at the racetrack occasionally so it needs to take good action shots. Would either of these cameras work for me or do you have any other suggestions?

I'm not sure how the battery life is on the DSC-F717 but if its anything like the DSC-V1, then I wouldn't even think about it. I have a G5 now that I'm selling and getting a heck of a deal on a Pro1...I'm breaking even actually. :) Canons are easy to use and fun to master. Check out butterflyphoto.com..I bought my G5 there for $587 shipped with 3 year service plan through repairtech. :)

The Sony DSC-V1 uses the NP-FC11 battery which is rated @ 780 mAH. At full resolution I took 15 pictures and the battery was already down to almost empty. I was severely disappointed just using it on a weekend trip. The DSC-F717 is too big and gaudy for me. I like the styling of Canon...especially when I went from a FujiFilm MX-1200 digital camera. LOL... then a Canon A60/A70 and then the G5 and now I'm stepping up to the Pro1 just cause its a free upgrade for me. yay. :)
