First warning, I'm WAAAYY out of the loop on current PC hardware technology. I just upgraded my work computer to a 3 year old cpu/mobo that I bought it the Yardsale subforum. It's an AMD socket AM2 setup. It's the most "up-to-date" computer I own now.

So anyways I'm looking to upgrade my personal computer. I'm on a tight budget. Ever since the Pentium 3 came out and had that tracking code in it I have never used Intel again. So naturally I began looking at some AMD processors. One caught my eye. AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz AM2 45W Dual-Core Processor for $60

Some quick Googling turns up many articles saying Intels are faster than AMDs.

Here is a similarly priced Intel chip. Intel Pentium E2200 Allendale 2.2GHz 65W Dual-Core Processor for $71

So how would these compare in your opinion?
Also when it says 2.5Ghz dual core, does that mean that each core is 2.5Ghz?

Intel's Core 2's are faster but it really doesn't make a huge difference. Will you notice any performance increase between the two? Most likely not.

that 4850e is one of those 'going green' shit.
it's great for HTPCs because of low heat and power consumption,... but that's it.
it's not faster than the regular Athlons.

if you want performance, get the Intel and overclock.

    yes

Because of the 45W part? It's not like laptop that lowers the speed of the processor, right?
