been putting on a lot of quality size lately, and I've been thinking of doing a cut to just strictly drop body fat and get to the point that I can see my abs again for when spring break rolls around, but I want to lose as little muscle mass as possible. I read through this article and it seems like it is a good way to go, the only thing I'm concerned about is a serious lack of energy. Anybody have any opinions or concerns with a diet like this?

    Keto is the shit.

Having energy for workouts is nonexistant though. When I'm in keto, doing my band warm ups alone gets me super fucking tired.

Best fat loss diet there is IMO.

cassandra forsythe said, on the fitcast, something about a recent study involving people on low carb diets vs. people on normal "bulking" diets (i think). she concluded that the low carb group lost the most bf and gained the most muscle.

again, i'm not sure if that's exactly what she said but it was around that area...

I'm planning on trying something like that in january probably. I don't do well with carbs and I'm not really lean with few carbs either, maybe I'd do better on this kind of thing. I think Maine and BDR talked about NHE or something like that which seemed interesting. Just getting a somewhat lean BF (around 10%) and being able to put on some size would satisfy me for now and I'd really cut later in march maybe.

ya, it was episode 13. and i was mistaken over the other group. it was ketogenic diet group vs. low fat diet group. "they increased muscle and lost fat, at the same time and more than the low fat group"

they chose thier own calories for the day. "the low carb group ate more calories than the low fat group" "it wasn't due to water loss" "they lost a lot of fat and gained a lot of muscle"

the thing was for 3 months, the low carb guys lost more than 20lbs, and thier numbers in all increased

    ya...pretty awesome.

There's this peer-reviewed journal called "nutrition and metabolism" which often has scientific studies on low-carb diets. Quite interesting.

Ketogenic diet and sport performance :

No dangers of high protein intake :

Keto diet lowers lipid problems :

Very low carb diet and weight loss (while preserving more muscle mass) :

    And so on.

i was looking into it too, but it seems like it's gonna take way too much time and effort. read the "the get un-shredded diet" article. it's basically how to come off the diet and all that. plus, why would you want to do this if you can only do it once every 2 years?

The "getting un-shredded" is basically how you should add cals slowly instead of going from 1800 to 3500 cals in a single day. It holds true for any diet because you have to up the metabolism to its pre-diet level.

I don't get why everyone wants to take extreme approaches when it's not necessary.

It works. And its far from "extreme".

It just happens to be one of those diets you cant cheat on. 90% of people dieting really just need structure, and keto diets give them that.

Not true. Many people have trouble getting into ketosis with carbs that high. I personally wont go over 30g/day including fiber!
