Was at the local gun store today and I'm not at all familiar with handguns, only have shot rifles mostly all my life. Looking for a handgun for home defense some fun at the range. Counter person was all about the thing, seemed pretty damn cool, interesting ammo although I bet its pricey. They also had a P90 that fired the same stuff!

ammo is going to be expensive for a range gun.

It's a neat gun, but it's not very practical and the ammo is too expensive.

If you want something for home defense get a shotgun.

the cost of ammo makes the gun pointless for me. it's like $30 for 50 rounds. fuck that. mallninja had one, he can give you more insight besides ammo price.

hmm doesn't seem too popular, not what I'd likely purchase anyway. If I was gonna drop that kinda money I'd probably get and HK, although the Sig 226 fit my large hands like a glove. Im much more likely to go with a glock or something cheaper atleast for this first handgun, prob 9mm for the cheap ammo.

    It's a cop Killllarrrrr...

Only reason i'd get one is for collecting purposes, as once they outlaw them, (and i'm sure theywill, they're the evil armor peircing, hollow point, exploding on impact bazillion rounds in a mag, Handgun)I'm sure the value will go up. PS90 would be cool, but only with the short barrel.

For defensives uses I think it has pretty crappy terminal ballistics. Since you're not LE you won't have armor piercing ammo, so whats the point?

From a ballistics standpoint you're going to create a bigger wound with 9mm fmj.

it seems they're one of those guns you get for it to be a safe queen... no real purpose other than you get to say you have one

    are they accurate at all???

    Yup

Its def a gun that people who dont own one start shit about it.
It had almost no recoil, very easy to stay on target and its well built.
I have put about 500 rounds thru mine and its my primary carry weapon in the city. You can get the armor piercing rounds but they are drying up. I use normal rounds for targets and special shit for carry, I have no doubt it would kill someone.
After firing a round at a phone book, you could easily see the bullet tumbles!

The 5.7 round isn't in full yaw for long, and even when it is the area an expanded 9mm jhp crushes is much greater. At full yaw it barely crushes more tissue than a 9mm fmj. The rest of the time the area of tissue crushed is smaller. So it does tumble, but the tumble really isn't worth much.

I'd carry one for CCW. 20 rounds, low recoil so very fast follow up shots. Since I am going to keep shooting til the threat is stopped and rarely will 1 shot stop a threat, it will do the trick.

I had one (the one I traded to Mallninja for his camera). I would buy one, but only if you had other handguns already as they are not very practical and wouldnt be too good for home defense.

Their terminal ballistics are suppose to suck. Bullet doesn't do much other than stab a small hole w/ no cavity.

Someone needs to tell the bad guys then. They apparently didn't get the memo that the ballistics suck and keep dying for no reason. :)
