Pride is doing the OWGP which they've been discussing for awhile and now that Icon Sports is doing open weight matches...

How does everyone else feel about this?

I think it's actually pretty interesting, just as long as proper safety is enforced. While it does pose more danger, it does make things interesting.

I understand the value of weightclasses but I think open weight matches on the side aren't so bad.

Also this open weight match with Mayhem vs. the other guy should be interesting, mostly because it invovles Mayhem Miller!

i think it's interesting...not when you have LW or even MW entering the tournaments...but a lot of the LHW's have legitimacy fighting HW's...most of the LHW's are really HW's anyways

A couple of highly skilled MW's isn't so bad in the mix, but it would be pretty hard to imagine a LW in it :hs:

I enjoy open weight fighting... I think when you restrict it to weight classes you really don't give the fighters a chance to see how well they fight, you just give them a chance to show how well they fight guys their own size... It theoretically could be more dangerous but not necessarily.

I think there are quite a number of LHW's who could be taken by MW's and HW's who could be taken by LHW's...

I do agree with the freakshow assessment though.

i think they shouldn't allow pure open weight, but maybe give a little leway to people's natural weights, like fight within +/-20lbs

I bet a lot of guys come in, in better shape due to the fact they dont have to cut 10-20 lbs in a day or week leading up to the fight.
