The story follows Hiroshi Kuzumi, a 16-year-old student who has just moved to the seemingly serene village of Jogamachi. Nestled in the mountains far away from the city, the village is divided by a river that separates old Jogamachi from new Jogamachi. Young Hiroshi soon discovers that the village is ancient as well as mysterious traditions and customs have been kept alive over the ages. Although a bit bewildered by the new environment, Hiroshi begins to settle into his new life. While he has never been the type to win any popularity contests, he quickly earns the affection of his classmates. That is with the exception of aloof class president, Nemuru Kushinada, whose only words to Hiroshi are a warning to stay away from old part of town. It is there that terror and mystery await him.

I think I watched 1 episode. Didn't impress me all that much. Seemed a bit generic.

It is HORRIBLE for the first half. Then you learn why the characters are like that, then shit gets intense as the characters turn psychotic.
Kind of like hirugashi no naku koro ni, starts out like a generic harem, then everyone goes batshit insane and starts killing each other; then they wrap it up nicely.

I loved Higurashi, but sometimes generic harems are just too boring and most of the time it pisses me off. I heard shana2 got pretty good in the end, but the first half pissed me off so much that I never even gave it a try later on.

Btw, what made Higurashi good wasn't the psychoticness of it, it was the plot that ties everything together. I'll give this one a try and see how much more I can tolerate before dropping it. Hopefully it will become better by then.

Pretty much this. Took some effort to get past the first few and then got somewhat interesting. Only somewhat though.

Oh, you're going to have to wait until episode 9-10 before you make any judgements. The anime is only 11 episodes, might as well force yourself to sit through the entire thing.

    Did you finish it?

Okay, after watching further its not bad. There's enough suspense to keep you interested throughout. I thought the first few episodes were kinda slow, but it does pick up.

I now remember why I dropped it after the first episode though.

I thought some of the stuff was a bit unbelievable and over the top in terms of character interactions in ep 1. For instance Isuzu pretty much all over the protagonist after day 1, or the fact a missing classmate doesn't arouse any suspicions but all that stuff is part of the plot.

Now, if they had left it like that without any explanations, then it really would be bad. It's one of the reason why I thought Fate/Stay anime was a failure. They had some unbelievable character interactions without any explanations (IE sakura acting indifferent towards her brother's disappearance/death).

Also, read on wikipedia that Ryukishi07 of higarashi and umineko headed this VN project as well so you know the plot would be pretty good.
