    i want to rent a 100-400 & 1.4x TC ... local joint is expensive ($90 + $45 per week).

rentglass.com, lensrental.com, etc ... any of you used any of these sites?

i would ultimately like to say "i need the lens on this date", and make sure it's delivered by then. i don't want to cross my fingers that the lens is available then.

Although I've never used it I've heard nothing but good things about rentglass.com. :dunno:

    that's another option.

apparently the lens market in S. Africa is HIGHLY overpriced. a lot of "really awesome photographers" (such as myself) will buy bling bling telephotos, use them for their trip, and then set a meeting with a local at their hotel the day before they leave.

i looked it up, and used 100-400's are going for ~$400 more there than I can buy one new from B&H today.

    it's just a little risky.

i haven't looked up the used prices here, though. it might not be a bad idea to do that either. :dunno:

can i tell them that i want it delivered to my house on a specific day, and then they'll hold it for me until then (well, rent it out until a couple of days before)?

$1400 new (plus tax), and they're going for about $1100 used. that's quite a chunk just to use it for a week. i really don't have a use for it otherwise

lensrentals.com looks like the best place.

2 week rental with insurance & shipping is only $135. they'll let me reserve the lens ahead of time, and will let me take it out of the USA with advance notice.

Anyone know if they give you the lens hood when you rent a super-telephoto?
I'm thinking of getting the nikon 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 VR. Anyone know if that would be good for airshow pictures in florida?

I used to use rentglass.com, but got tired that everything was always out of stock, and you couldn't reserve lenses.... since I've used lensrentals.com exclusively and have had nothing but an excellent experience.
