MMA One thing I don't understand about Fedor...

While his stand-up is amazing for MMA (despite the fact that he keeps it mostly boxing and uses relatively few knees and kicks compared to other champion fighters), he doesn't seem to take opponents down so much... It really seems like he owns the ground when he's been taken down himself, and despite that amazing ability, is more comfortable on his feet.

Am I wrong, or does he seem to let people take him down (or take advantage of their takedown if his defense won't stop it) rather than do it himself?

I have thought about this abit and I think he is comfortable on his feet and knows he can knock people out standing. Why would we want to take it to the ground if he isn't at a disadvantage standing? I have also noticed he doesnt really defend the takedown as much as some others.

I always thought that he went for quite a few takedowns. His style doesn't really lead to double-legs.

    Fedor is a takedown machine

Just watch Fedor Nog 3 to see a takedown clinic, he must have dumped nog about 80 times in that match.

His takedowns are really good actually, but I have noticed that he doesn't always follow his opponent to the ground after he throws them. I guess if he feels like he is doing better on his feet he doesn't feel the need to sit in someone's guard and ground and pound them.

But when he does go to the ground with somebody he likes to back out of the guard, stand at their feet kicking and punching while trying to pass to the side.

At Shockwave 2004 he was throwing Nogueira down with ease, but for the most part he didn't look like he wanted to spend much time in Nogueira's guard. When Fedor fought CroCop he went to the ground every chance he got and did a great job controling him there. Fedor also looked very comfortable in Mirko's guard just pounding from there.

his standup is really good, but he's much more polished on the ground i think. plus, it takes out the puncher's chance he gives to his opponent by keeping it standing

that plus he didn;t even knock him out on his feet... he didn't even knock him out at all, it's just that zulu got knocked down and did not defend himself.
