i'm thinkin about switching somethings up & maybe adding something.

Instead of doing the big 3 (5x5) all in one day, put the squat 5x5 on day 3 (friday). And move the set where you do 3reps of 5lbs more onto day 1 (monday).

Also, i was thinking of adding a 4 set bench press where the 4th set is 2-3 reps of 10lbs more than the current 5RM. Just so that i can gain the mental confidence in my head that i can put up higher weight. (i.e. "i know i can put up 205 twice, so 185x5 is easy :run: ).

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

Also what kind of reps/sets/weight would you do to shock a muscle to bust out of a plateau? (would someone on the starr routine require lower weight more reps & more sets?)

i suppose on friday(day3) with incline. It's not going to be all that taxing with just 4sets & a total of say 17-18 reps.

Honestly, wednesday is actually my most exhausting day since it i do both dips & 2 types of shoulder press (seated dumbell & standing pre-weighted barbell - 3sets each).

Dude if you never plateaud on it and were constantly adjusting weights you could gain strength forever at a constant rate...

since im assuming he hasnt been lifting for 15 yrs and has not reached his bodies max numbers for movements, im sure he will be fine.
take it in context, not as broad as every lifter that ever existed, mate.

I was taking it in context broly, just pointing out the example. He can still be following the routine as it states and plateau. Although it's probably due to diet or intensity at this stage.

so, if its due to something other than the routine, like you stated, why is my context wrong?
its ok to change routines every few months or so, if needed, but maybe its not just yet?

btw, adrenalin - having the constant 5x5 all on one day makes recovery easier after each workout day, b/c your doing different styles on each day, your body should be responding differently, at least from my experience. :)

im eating enough where 2/3 of my core lifts go up each week. The gains are slowing down though... previously i was eating 15-17x bodyweight, getting gains, & a massive guy. Now, im @ 12-13x bodyweight, getting the same gains, & keeping a trimmer mid-section.

seriously dont fuck with it, the reason why it is set up that way is to have one 'light', 'medium' and 'heavy' day. The point of this is to allow you to train the compound lifts often without burning out.

Everyone sees Bill Starrs shit and trys to turn every day into Heavy Days. Pendlay and Starr know more then you or any of us so do it as is.
