Past two weeks I'm deployed to Pohang, South Korea, for US Marine combat engineer training called Hwang So '05. Everything from patrols, obstacles, bridging, explosives, and weapons training. This is the first quarter of the pics.

Because of fuckups we ended up arriving at Osong Range which was half an hour from our actual base at 3 in the morning.

we wandered into this dvd store and someone wanted to buy porn so we tried our best to communicate. this girl was the clerk and we finally understood that it wasn't an actual store but just a place that you rent dvd's and watch for 6 bucks an hour in a room. she was really cute and was learning chinese in college so she and i hit it off. i liked her.

no we didn't. it was kind of a spur of the moment thing. in the morning one of the staff sgt. came into our hooch and asked for a volunteer as a-driver and i got picked. they didn't take enough motor t marines so i got paired up with the guy that always ferries us from camp to the range.

we followed a small minivan that had 3 other staff sgts (one was staff nco for motor t, one was supply chief, and the third was explosive expert).

we had no weapons or any other preplanned thought. in fact i wasn't told we were transporting the explosives until we got there. once we were there we waited 2 hours for the plane to even take off from okinawa. what was scary was the fact that on the way home we lost radio contact because the batteries died and we made a little boo-boo in navigation and ended up downtown in one of the cities for 10 minutes. fortunately we found the highway and the staff sgts found us on the road again and we made it back. oorah marine corps international incidents.

on korean tv during news they keep showing US army soldiers and clips of taxi drivers claiming the soldiers would beat them up after being dropped off somewhere. it was kind of lame.

Cool pics. Be sure and get some videos of the explosions! :naughty:

As I was looking at the pics of the airbase, the first thought that popped up was how we used to send spies into the soviet union who sometimes died trying to get blurry grainy pics of the exact same things you posted. I feel so old all of a sudden. :hs:

we only got 3 nights of libo, of which i got to be able to go to town twice. had to get back by 11 so i wasn't able to talk to the local girls and bed down with them. the red light district was pretty small and the girls were chunky or ugly and old and 60 bucks for a lay wasn't very a good deal to me.

we were in the country. there were rice paddies into the horizon

i don't know how different army and marine combat engineering is though i do know the army school is longer the the marine school. everything we learned is uniquely marine corps but all data and references and specs is from the army 5 dash book (the combat engineer bible)

we didn't get to see the aftermath of the explosions since we were pressed for time and plus my camera battery died half way through training but my friend has a vid of the 3000lb. line charge explosives going off and it's insanely cool. i'll post that as soon as i can
