what's wrong Tony
they wont add mma, not in a million years
Wow man, fucking amazing reply.
I'd bet dollars to donuts Tony would rather see BJJ than MMA in the Olympics.
provide a link or something man, give me something to chew on
I'd rather see bjj too :/ I thought it had a good chance too cause I figured brazillians love their jits...
i'd rather see bjj.. mma as an olympic sport would be terrible.. olympic boxing isnt fun to watch.. but olympic judo is
they finally just added female boxing for 2012
I heard talk about muay thai and keep in mind that combat sports are at the amauture level so olympic boxing is ammy Im assuming if they ever brought in kick boxing or mma it would be the same
RUGBY IS IN!!!
Pity im too old and crap at Rugby to make the Australian side.
China held a huge wushu tournament in conjunction with the Olympics. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mundials or the Worlds or something along those lines in Rio at the same time as the Olympics.
and pool should be included too
It being in brazil doesn't mean much, it's the IOC that adds sports, not the host country.
Sports need to have a lot of international support just to be considered. You would need an international regulating body. Then you would need uniform rules that everyone agrees on. Then you need some years of competition under those rules & regulating body to show you have the authority to unify the sport. Then you need to make the sport internationally accepted - and outside of Brazil, the US, and Japan, how many countries can you name that have a decent amount of people involved in bjj?
It might have a shot in 2020 if bjj/mma continues to grow at the rate it is now.
i dont think bjj is as popular as it seems in brazil.
dunno, i know quite a few brazilians and many never even heard of it Most of them are girls though
wasn't there a requirement that there has to be a certain number of black belts in combative sports before they considered adding it to the roster? Barring this, wouldn't there need to be representatives of the sport in many different countries as well?!?
I think i read this in the judoforums.
Problem found, and solved.
They need to add ADCC style submission grappling... I don't think MMA works as an olympic sport. You'd have to SEVERELY bastardise it to make it work, there would just be WAY too many fights in too short a period for full contact.
I really like boxing in general (won't pay $50 to watch it though), but Olympic boxing is really hard (for me) to watch.
