He does the same leg drive as if there were weight, but he wouldn't get that high if there were 200 lbs on the bar.

my guess is to overemphasize the explosiveness of the exercise? :dunno:

If you accelerate fast enough and there's not enough weight on the bar to transfer the energy to, you become airborn. It doesn't serve any functional purpose, it simply demonstrates that the lifter is moving more explosively than necessary to accomplish the lift and the energy is not transferring to the bar.

it pulls your feet in legs up higher so you can get under the bar better....

actually I really don't know the exact reason but from personal experience I know I can get under the bar a lot better if I hop/jump

Keeps you back on your heels too. There is a big fat dude training some highschool students at my gym lately. They don't move their feet at all and 2 of the kids are always on their toes and constantly lose balance and step forward while trying to get under the weight. I want to go tell him what is obvious but he doesn't look like he wants to hear it..

the jumping and stomping of the feet serves no purpose, in fact it is the incorrect way to perform olympic lifts and their accessory exercises and puts the person's focus on stomping their feet and jumping when they should be focusing on the explosiveness of the second pull

Who says they're stricly focusing on stomping and not getting the weight up as explosively as possible. And I don't think we're necessarily talking about stomping persay, just simply having our feet come off the ground for a split second.

It feels awkward if I don't jump with it.
