how do you guys feel about the shifting of BJJ from a long game of patience, endurance, etc, to the newer style short game that tournaments emphasize with points and time limits?

when you grapple for fun do you usually have time limits?

I personally kinda prefer grappling where I don't have to go full throttle the whole time, I like to be patient and let the opportunity for subs come to me.

    what do you guys think?

For me, since the very start of my training I have focused on only ending the match by submission. 90% of my training partners are good wrestlers, making most of our matches very fast and furious. I don't really think it matters how you roll though, once you get good, you can beat anybody with your own style.

I come from a stand up background (Boxing TKD MT etc..) I find I am not patient on the ground and try to force oppurtunitys rather then wait for them to occur.

i train no-gi at a school that strongly favors top position, and it leads to pretty high intensity grappling. i've never rolled with a gi, but it looks slower and more technical than no-gi.

i like a mixture of both.. sometimes im in the mood to be very aggressive, and other times im in the mood to work through some techniques slowly

  7. I like to be quick most of the time but prefer to be patient in the mount.
