redo your crop... put a little bit more back off to the left, as far as the edge of the stone, so the bird isn't so centered.

I think having more of the shadow on the building would be too distracting.

why do people make suggestions like this?

the photo has a shadow in it. The purpose of photoshop isn't to remove the natural elements of a photo. spending 2 hours getting rid of the shadow isn't going to improve anything about the picture. and when people do stuff like that (even professionals) it usually looks like shit.

I somewhat agree with this.. who the hell cares, its a shadow.. I didn't get distracted by it, its a friggin shadow, its part of the picture.

since the fuck when do you decide what the 'purpose of photoshop' is???

The purpose of photoshop is to edit images. However the fuck the person doing the editing wants. There are plenty of reasons one could have to either want more of the shadow, or not want it at all. Hell, the photographer COULD want the bird to be yellow, instead of black. Does it matter to you? Should it matter to you? Whether or not it looks like shit or does or does not improve anything in the picture is ENTIRELY the decision of the editor, which you are not.

Hell, since we're on the track of what photoshop's purpose is, does your holyness approve of the vignette that was added, or is this also, 'not the purpose of photoshop'???

Your logic is just fucking astounding.

the answer to 'who the hell cares' about where and how shadows lie in a photograph SHOULD be - wait for it - ALL OF US. Photography is entirely about light and shadow. A small difference in the light or shadows of an image can severly atler the mood, flow and concept of an image. You think Ansel Adams spent MONTHS scouting out locations for an image just to say 'ah, fuck it. It's just a shadow... Doesn't matter where the light is hitting the mountain... I'll just shoot it anyway...' Does Annie Leibowitz, Zach Aries or fucking Chase Jarvis just throw his flashes around randomly, because 'who the hell cares, it's a shadow'.

Come on guys. We're photographers. Look at the fucking light. Where does it hit? where does it not hit. what shadows are created, where does it draw your attention?

In the shot of the crow we're talking about here, I actually think this shadow is a necessary and important part of the image. 'What is the crow looking at, and why is it dark in that direction?'

I'd prolly include more of the shadow and that side to get him out of the center of the frame, and also dodge down that entire side of the frame to give it some sort of sinister feel.

i kind of like the shadow and having a crow right beside it. i would crop the left side right at the lady's hair and include the full shadow shape.

I think jared is still holding back. :)

there are parts to the post pic I like and parts I dont.

I like the background (shadow and all), I like the concrete a whole lot actually, I love how the action pulled the detail out of it and exagerrated it. And for as much as I liek this in the concrete, I dont like how it pulled all thedetail, even the distracting detail out of part of the feathers in the bird while leaving the tail and wing feathers detailess. but I like the head neck and feet of the bird

like I said. Why would you want to get rid of the shadow? Showing the entire shadow here looks ominous and almost takes over the crow as subject of the picture.
