So I've got a somewhat older head unit, maybe 3-4 years old now, but I LOVE IT and don't have the cash to buy what I would want to replace it with.

Anyway, long story short, it skips ALL THE FRIGGIN TIME, even with brand new freshly burnt cds... I'm assuming the laser has lost it's original power (I heard somewhere that this happens).

Is there any way to have this repaired, or would that be a waste of money?

    TIA!

clean the lense. They make special cd's with brushes on them for this.

I have never heard of a laser "loosing" intensity.

But my head unit just has the small slot to push the CD in... not sure if this'll work. I've already tried blowing some compressed air in there to get some dust off the lens... didn't really do much.

    Any other tips?

    Lens...losing

Anyway, try the cd cleaner disc with the small brushes on it and follow the directions. If that doesn't help then the only thing left to do is take it into to have it serviced. Usually what happens is that the potentiometers that are used to bring the laser servos into spec wander off slightly and that causes the problems.
