I got a bunch of old .223 from a friend of mine who got it when he left the army about 15 years ago. The cardboard boxes look like they might have been water damaged, but the ammo on the inside is still seated fine, with some discoloration in the casings. Nothing more then on the Federal surplus I buy.
Think its safe to shoot? Or anything I should do to prep it to shoot?

I know quite a few of you shoot older surplus ammo so I figured you might have some suggestions.

No its garbage check PM for address to send it to for proper disposal..

It should be fine to shoot, if the bullets were sealed and got wet should shoot, if they weren't or somehow got wet inside then worst that'll happen no bang. I had some 7.62x39 that were left in a leaky car trunk, surface rust on the cases they all went bang.

considering that you can still buy 8x56R from the 30s, I would say 15 year old ammo is probably fine.
