sorry to start a new thread, but I'm soooooo fkn pissed right now that its not even funny. here's whats happening....

from my previous thread, i bought a macbook today from a craigslist ad. it was in GREAT condition, but i decided to go ahead and do a reformat on it (by the way, i had to search on how to do this since i'm a first tiime mac owner)

ok, so i call myself reformatting (which took a few hours) and when os x loaded up, i noticed that everything was STILL on the machine. (files, apps, saved passwords, etc). i figured out that i didnt select to erase everything whenever i chose to reformat it, so i decided to try it again- this time selecting the right option.

i chose to erase everything (which at the time i thought was the right decision), & rebooted the machine with os x install disks

the installer pops up on reboot, and tries to install, but i get this fucking Install Failed -- Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer. The Installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install.

I've tried to do this shit like 7 times and i keep getting the same error message. I'm able to open up the disk utility and i ran tests to verify & repair the hd, but it says everything is ok-- so I'm at a lost on what to do. This shit is HIGHLY frustrating because ALL I WANTED was a fresh start to set up my own profiles, etc and feel like a brand new user.

Can this be resolved or did I just kill my bank account on a busted machine?! I've searched the internets as best as I could for an answer but have found nothing... and then again I don't speak fancy mac languages.

I feel like fucking crying right now. :wtc:

Are you using an upgrade disc and not a full-version?

Are you installing Leopard? There were some issues with Leopard's installer formatting the disk incorrectly.

    i really couldn't tell you.

the macbook came with 2 disks labeled 'mac os x install disk 1 & 2'
    'disk version 1.0'

is there a way that i can tell which version of the disks i'm using?

also, would it be a good idea to take the machine to the apple store in the mall and try to get some solutions there?

make a genius appointment. i'm one of the guys that works on the floor at the phoenix apple store and nothing will be done if you dont have a genius appointment, especially on the weekend, theyll just make one for you and tell you to come back when your reservation happens (which is most likely not in that day)

ok im gonna check out the apple store.

does this sound like a problem that can be resolved with a little time & the right knowledge of os x?

as long as the install discs are the correct ones for your machine, you should be able to reinstall without any problems. the computer is probably fine.

I'll be in Pheonix all next week. Where is the Apple store located there? Is it close to the Wyndham?

I've never been to Phoenix before, so I'm not really sure. I think it's on E.Adams Street, near a big convention center. If I get 2 seconds to myself this coming week I might come by. I like checking out the different Apple stores in new cities
