I need to send my winchester model 100 out to one of their contracted smith's to have the firing pin changed per the recall.
Does it need to come and go via ffl? or can I just bring it to ups and have it shipped back to me?

Nothing special at all, just mail it ups, fedex, usps, etc.

Make sure you send it loaded with the safety off.

Is that for the entire united states? This guy I talked to the other day at a gun store said individuals can't ship firearms. That sounded a bit sketchy to me, but I wasn't sure.

As a rule anything you hear at a gun store is false. This is another example of that :)

I was pretty sure this guy didn't know what he was talking about, but I didn't argue because I didn't know either.

individuals cannot legally ship firearms to other individuals in diff states. However, it is legal to ship (via a non-usps courier) to a FFL or manufacturer.

i know with UPS you have to go to the distribution center. i have to ship out 2 rifles, and im having a mother fucker of a time getting to the distribution center. its no where fucking close to me. guess ill just give up and send them USPS... although the big NO FIREARMS sign on the door might conflict with what im sending.

it's not legal to ship a firearm via usps. Don't do it. Use FedEx if that's easier.

I would call them and ask them the protocol they would like you to follow since it is a recall they initiated, just in case they have something in place that isn't required by law, or doing it a slightly different way might actually speed things up.
