Ok, so, nowhere I live sells maltodextrin. What can I use instead?

I was trying to get some maltodextrin to put into my postworkout drinks and was looking for something cheaper then gatorade type drinks. It's too expensive to order to Canada from any site I have found that sells it.

Would it be fine to simply use table sugar, i mean the main reason maltodextrin is used is because of its high GI, right? Wouldn't table sugar (sucrose) be just fine for putting in a postworkout drink or is there any other reason why maltodextrin is the preferred postworkout sugar?

you can't find a local brewer that sells it?

the problem with sucrose is that it is a dissacharide one half of which is fructose. Fructose is not ideal post workout because it won't replenish muscle glycogen stores, only liver glycogen, nor does it illicit a particularly good insulin response. So, dextrose and malto are much more preferable. An alternative if you can't find those is probably to find some glucose tablets at wal-mart or something, the things that diabetics keep around in case their blood sugar drops too low.

    yes, it's probably cheaper too.

no advantage to dextrose or malto to something containing fructose? You don't care about muscle reabsorption of glycogen?

some fructose is good, and weight training isn't very glycogen depleting anyhow
