Looking for one with datacenters in Chicago, LA, NY, TX, Seattle
In all of those places? or any of those places?
I'd recommend liquid web, but they are in michigan
theplanet in tx.
Im starting a game server company, I need all those locations for latency issues. AKA people in LA don't want to play in a NY server with 120 ping.
Yeah I already plan on the Planet but I can't get anything from them yet because I plan to start with business in Chicago. TX is the next step. Before I bought from seperate companies I was wondering if there was a company that had all those locations to offer.
• Dallas, TX
• Seattle, WA
• Washington, DC
In for more info.
Currently have a server with ThePlanet. It's great, but need servers in other locations as well. (similar reason - game server)
What kind of machines do you run & how many servers do you run per machine?
I've been with The Planet for nearly 6 years now.. They're starting to slow down.
I've had a Softlayer dedi for 3 months tomorrow. I love it. Considering making the switch to full softlayer. The amount of control you have over everything is baffling..
Especially the VPN Terminal. <3 Softlayer.
<3 softlayer crew.
I've got 2 in tx and 2 in wa
So the cheapest 4GB of memory dedicated server is over $300? From Softlayer.
Have a few boxes there, love 'em.
. +10101030919134014304139004319 for softlayer. best company i've worked with.
Wow, totally missed this question earlier.
Running a multiplayer game I built myself. A low level machine (dual core, 2 gb ram) is expected to handle about 200 players at once (approx 20 games).
Just talked to ThePlanet and they have a new datacenter in London! This takes a huge load off my mind. I was worried about dealing with companies in another country.
Our launch plan was 4 servers: West coast, Texas, East coast, Europe
So now, the plan will probably be:
Texas, London - ThePlanet
Seattle, Wash DC - Softlayer
800 concurrent players at launch. Hope we can fill up the servers
From what I've seen, you need to use coupons for all of these companies. Here's one I found for softlayer:
Double RAM & HDD on any server $159 and up! To receive this pricing - Choose a server with a base price of $159 or more, and add your choice of RAM 2x your choice of Hard Drive. Use the promo code YIPP to waive the fees for *half* the RAM and the second hard drive.
I don't know why they do this and then charge an arm and a leg for 4gb of ram. Maybe because of the coupon they would expect 4gb to really be 8gb and thus charge to compensate.
Then add in the coupons here that suite your needs:
Softlayer is pretty decent. They buy service from me in DC, Dallas, and Seattle. Their upstream capacity is nowhere near congested.
ThePlanet only buys from me in Dallas. Lots of capacity there.
Where in London is ThePlanet? Telehouse? Lynx? Did they say?
