What are your thoughts in regards to calorie defecits while cutting? Some people here advocate bodyweight*11-12 and the noob thread recommends no less than 85% of your maintenance. For me the two represent a difference of almost 700 calories. Should bodyweight*11-12 screw with my metabolism, even if I continue to workout 3x week?

Ya, actually your input would be good.

5'4 134 (GOD YES, I KNOW, DONT CUT) but I bulked all summer and I'm all chubby right now. I would estimate around 15%bf. Probably light work lifestyle, but I would upgrade that to moderate work in a couple weeks. And yes, I'm well aware I'm a midget. :eek3:

edit: First three weeks I cut, I was dropping 2lbs/week and still lifting same amount of weight. Fourth week I didnt loose anything, whole time I ate about 11-12x bodyweight.

all summer isn't very long. Who are you going to impress with your cuts during a snowstorm? And since I've never actually intentionally cut, I can't offer you advice. Sorry.

    well if youre fat...cut...

if youve hit a wall like 3 weeks in, go back to maintinence calories to stimulate leptin...

and in youre diet...yeah your calories may be the right number but youre gonna get ken kaniff skinny fat if you cut on like breads/a lot of carbs and fats...

my general rule of cutting is before every meal ask yourself 'is this gonna help retain muscle?' and if youre eating an OT F+N bandwagon natty pb sanwhich...'but sgt. ownage! its natural peanut butter!!' fuck yourself. its tons of fat and carbs...not good cutting food

keep protein high as shit...low-moderate carbs none after 5-6pm depending on bedtime...fat low-moderate...id keep it low cause its so calorie dense...eat protein right when you wake up and before you go to bed

No, I've been eating really clean as far as I can tell. My real indulgence is low fat cheddar cheese, but my daily intake usually includes skim milk, high fibre brown bread for a sandwich with roast beef, and like steak, or rarely pasta for dinner, with an apple/banana or two a day. Macro breakup been about 20/40/40.
But i'll take your other advice about protein timing and stuff, I appreciate it.

I honestly don't know how to give advice on cutting to someone who weighs 134lbs. I mean your maintenance calories are going to be really low already...

Well I bulked on about 3000/day, I maintained for a couple weeks on 2500/day and for the first week I was cutting at 2000/day which seemed to work well, but now it seems like my cut has drastically slowed down.

Now in regards to my total weight, of course its not a lot, but you do have to keep in mind my height. Again, granted its still not a ton, but keep it in perspective. I did some figuring against some NHLers (keep in mind I train for hockey) and in height/weight ratio if I was 140 I would be St. Louis size. Hes a short dude, but hes a pretty good size.

Not the best picture, but I think Acura will have a better idea of how solid he looks.

Eventually 140/135 cut would be nice, but I would estimate I gained 10lbs of LBM during my bulk, but now I'm sick of being fat and hockey season is right around the corner, so it'd be nice to cut weight. Anyway, if you could give me help I'd appreciate it, if not, well...:dunno:

I would recommend that you cut on 4000 calories

I think it is easily possible to go into a 1000 calories/day deficit with minimal muscle loss. When you think about it, that is only 2lbs a week.

I had thought that, as I said, I lost 6lbs in 3 weeks, with virtually no change in intensity. So your opinion is to stay the course?
