now with a budget of 500... ive really narrowed my tastes down to these

    first the

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976386578.htm

then i really love this one too

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976398762.htm

but i also started noticing this beauty

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976368763.htm

on side note ive read a little bit about the CETME .308 G3 clone and its shady build quality and that the FAL versions by century are better..

    http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/FAL_R1A1__308_Sporter_Rifle.html

that basically breaks my budget but it seems to be an awesome rifle

im a little confused on what exactly a FAL is compared to a CETME...

century arms makes the FAL right? err? heres a post with a picture of the EXACT G3 replica i like although i tried to send sideways a pm about which one is it... regardless

id say go with the sar-1 :bigthumb: , with the sagia being my second choice.

FAL is a generic description of a type of rilfe (like ak or ar) and different comanpies make FAL style rifles. CETME is a cheaper FAL clone. some of the nicest FAL's come from a company called DSA (too many acronyms :o ) .. but they run about 800.

i think i said this in your main forum thread, but i wouldn't start out with a rifle chambered in .308 as it is more expensive, more powerful, and generally heavier.

CETME's are HK91 (G3) clones, not related to the FAL.

The FAL is a 7.62x51mm rifle made by FN Herstal. It became the most popular military rifle following WWII, and was adopted by a number of countries. They have an adjustable gas system, and come in inch and metric patterns which do not have interchangeable parts. The DSA Stg58 is a high quality FAL clone you can purchase brand new these days. The Century guns are something of a crap shoot ... you might get a great one for a great price, or you might get a piece of junk.

CETME's and HK G3's are very similar rifles that were designed as an alternative to the FAL and used by Spain and Germany respectively. They are also chambered in 7.62x51. The clones (Century, Hesse, SW and some others) are also a crap shoot. I've heard of lots of people who got good ones, but I've also heard of people getting junk.

whew i finally see the clear difference between CETME g3 and FAL's.. those DSA FAL's look  as far as quality goes..

im pretty much set on a romanian AK-47 SAR-1 type for my first firearm..

    this one exactly..

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976405724.htm

although im not sure if the extra cost is worth that scope as compared to just this

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976386578.htm

    ..

and for my second rifle im VERY sure i want get this one immediately

    http://www.centerfiresystems.com/mi...de=CSI&Product_Code=PKGSKS-A&Category_Code=RF

and then ill start saving towards a DSA FAL .. ive been reading on www.cetmerifles.com on the reviews and it seems they work great but you first have to inspect the entire rifle and fix a few things and me being a n00b im in no position to start doing that..

yes, they are "pleasure rifles". call them that from now on, and confuse people.

or freedom rifles, or defense rifles or something.

OK CHANGE OF PLANS! ... THIS TIME FOR SURE!

    IM GETTING A ROMANIAN SAR-1 :o

i guess the cheap ammo and the highly praised reviews ive been reading and all the posts ive seen on multiple ak 47 websites just really reeled in to the AK camp...

ive checked out Arsenal INC, Arsenal USA and the   KREBS and AK-USA guns and really i just cant justify spending 200 dollars more or so on purely cosmetically better rifles..

If you buy anything other than a SAR-1, you are not getting a better functioning rifle, you are getting a better looking one. But you can always make the SAR-1 look good by refinishing the wood, and rebluing the metal. I polished the bolt on mine, I used naval jelly to strip the original finish, and polished it up with some flitz.

not true. VEPRs have better triggers. and they use much better steel than other stamped AK's, so they don't have the weak trunion issues. i mean, the triggers are pretty damn good. and for an AK, they kick ass.

yea its pretty much understood on the romanian ak boards ... two different ak boards say the only mod you should do is replace the fcg with a gordon tech or a redstar arms adjustable because the century C is utter crap... and refinishing the looks of the rifle...

and for my third im going to cut the barrel down to minimum length and add a compensator to keep it legal length

a possible fourth mod would changing all the furniture to KVAR synthetic nato..

At least I don't have the trigger slap that some people report having with their SAR-1's.

as far as trigger slap, i get it on just about every AK i fire. my observation is that depending on WHERE you hold the trigger (high or low) you get different amounts of trigger slap. i get it on the romanian SAR-1's, my friend's bulgarian AK, whatever, every AK i've ever fired does it to me. unless i move my finger around. the higher it is, the less slap. on AK's, i tend to put my finger lower on the trigger than do most other people. my best friend doesn't get trigger slap, but one of our other friends does.
