I know it's out of your budget, but the Wesson CBOB is a fanstastic gun for the price they are asking for it. It's hand fitted, and locks up like a bank vault. I've handled and shot 5 different ones, each and every one felt like a gun that cost 2x what they are asking for it. If you could swing it, it's the best 4" 1911 I've ever found for under $1k.

If you are planning to carry it I would not spend less than the $819 for the S&W. The S&W is nice because it is so light. The DW is an excellent 1911 for the $$$ and with the bobtail is perfect for carry.

Just buy a Glock or Sig or HK or whatever and forget about a 1911 if you can't or won't spend what those will cost.

How about a SA G.I. for < $500 and send it off with $300 to a good smith for a carry & reliability package?

There are some good suggestions in this thread.

Personally, I'd be looking to score a used Cbob. I've seen them go that cheap. Have cash, and be quick on the draw.

If the color bothers you so much, spray paint and duracoat are cheap and easily sourced for those inclined.

This thread should have ended after the CBOB suggestion, seriously. You can't put "budget" and "good 1911" in the same sentence. That's like asking for a Ferrari under $50k.

the CBOB is only a 100 more, or you can end up with a much more less of a gun and consider that 700 dollars you spent money down the drain. Don't limit yourself and piss away cash just because its just "slightly" out of your range, save up and get it, you won't regret it.

I'm cheap, I prefer to get the correct gun the first time rather than get a bunch of cheap guns to compensate.

    Oh and Warhog...:hsugh:

with the price he was asking, did you expect anything of quality with 1911 in the title?

Never a FTF or FTE with my Kimber. I am a happy camper with this one so far.
