The last few posts I had, many people told me I was doing lots wrong so I come to you guys and im putting it all on the table...

EDIT: I've read the Noobs guide to fat loss, still would like to hear input based on everything I mentioned below

    Diet:

    breakfast around 8:30am or 9am
    1 packet maple/brown sugar oatmeal
2 or 3 hard boiled egg whites (after many people told me I lacked protein)

    11am
    large banana

    12:30 or 1pm
    chicken salad wrap
    or
    tuna sandwich wrap
    or
savory turkey breast, no cheese, 6" on wheat bread tons of vegs, vinegar NO OIL

3pm or 4pm (if im even hungry as its crunch time at work)
    another banana

    6 or 6:30pm
    stir fry vegs, little rice
    or
    2-3 cups of pasta
    or
    chicken breast and wheat bread

10 or 10:30 (if im hungry)
    apple or bowl of fruits

and in between, SHITLOADS of water, maybe 3-4 8oz bottles/day if not diet soda or sparkling water

by my calculations on fitday, im consuming on avg between 1300 - 1700 calories / day.

    Workout:

elliptical machine (arms and legs), 600 calories, 51min, 5.1mi, i do this 5-6 days a week.

i'm currently 229lbs, 5'7" as of last thursday, gonna weigh myself tomorrow..i plan to switch my workout routine to toning and lifting w/3 days/week of cardio when i get close to 180lbs. I've been at it 1mo and my beginning weight was 245lbs.

Please leave any harsh criticism at the door - I am willing to change if I'm doing something wrong, any comments, please back up with detail.

    Thanks for your time!

Step one: Read the "Noob guide to fat loss"
Step two: Track your calories to make sure you are getting enough protein and maintaining an intake lower than your maintenance.
Step three: Post before and after pics in 3 months.

Even diet soda is shit for you.

I try to steer clear of anything besides water.

Try stepping the intensity up a little bit. 600 calories for 51 minutes seems a little low. In addition, the Elliptical is probably overshooting your caloric burns. You don't have to kill yourself, just try bringing your CPM (to 20-25, if the Elliptical shows CPM) up a little bit. You should work out intense enough so that your feel 'exhausted' in less than a half hour. You're just wasting your time if not.

    Excellent strategy.

    Anyone else?

I'm starting to think elliptical isn't good enough alone...might start running as well.

Don't eat the sugar packs of oatmeal. Just eat something like the Quaker Instant Oats. The only ingredient should be 100% natural whole grain oats.

That stuff tastes like BOOGERS!! I ate it last week - is there a way to make it taste slightly better without adding sugar?

Sounds like he just wants to get in shape, not look like the dude in your avatar. Aerobic exercise is more rewarding and encouraging in the short term than weight training, which is why I usually recommend that for people just getting into something.
