Stopped by the local gunstore this morning and sitting amongst the racks was an 18" Fabrique FR8 in .308. Clean as a whistle too. Has the rear rotating peep sight, a flash hider and of course the standard Mauser straight bolt action.

    Pricetag on it is $299.
I was actually just looking at it thinking this would make a hell of a camping rifle since it's short and pretty damn light.

What you think on the price?

How does it measure up to the Einfeld .308?

seems similar in size to the Jungle Enfield but a tad lighter. Trying to find a pic.

Seems $300 is in the ballpark for one in very good condition.

Still trying to find out if it will only handle the NATO 7.62 or if it can deal with commercial .308

Bah, looks like the jury out there is that these are bleh at best. Oh well, back to looking at the Marlin 336 or a Savage bolt.

supposedly not, but not going to blow 300 for something that I haven't tried out for myself, especially with all the mediocre reviews.

screw it, going to get a Marlin in 45-70 instead. Figured if I am going to get a rifle for backpacking/hunting, I might as well get the best.
