Anyway, I've been wanting one for a while now, AIM surplus has a 5.45x39 for $290 shipped. It's a WASR :hs: but it's cheap. I guess I kind of wanted one in 7.62x39 but I dunno what the difference is really. Ammo price is about the same it seems.

Should I spend a little more on a Yugo or buy this and spend more on ammo?

After getting a wasr i should have saved for the yuho. 7.62 is a better round imo. but it's up to you. Yugos have a better build quality.

Yeah, I know Yugos are better built. I figure I will get one of those in the future. Probably when I'm done with school I'll have more money to spend on stuff I want.

$290 is a good price for the WASR, I prefer 5.45 but the yugo will be better quality, with the WASR your rolling the dice you may get one thats fine or you may end up with one with trigger slap and/or canted sights. If you end up with canted sights you can fixem yourself, but trigger slap will cost ya $40-80 depending who's parts you want to use.

I've always heard that if you really want the cream of the crop, arsenal is where its at.

Part of the appeal of the ak though is cheap I think ;)

Might be able to find a nice barely used one for 425-450, I've seen SLR-95's going in that range, all bulgarian on a Milled reciever

Well thread starter says AIM's got the $290 special again on the WASR's not a bad price on them, only problem is you dont know what your getting, might be a perfect rifle or you may end up with trigger slap making you dump more money into it :dunno: I got one of the WASR's back in December I think, worked ok, sights were straight trigger sucked as usual with any of Century's rommy AK's but it didnt have slap, sloppy finish on metal and wood, if you want to tinker with it for under $300 the WASR's aren't a bad buy, but if you want something perfect out of the box spend more money.

I can get them for the low-mid 300 range locally, I am just not sure on ammo prices of 7.62 X 39 and availability.
I was thinking to get a .22lr Rifle to have cheap ammo, but I like those Arsenal AKs but they are like $150 more than I was going to spend on a .22lr
I guess I will see how things work out.

Ah I see, well if you go the AK route, consider 5.45, has better accuracy then 7.62 and ammo prices on both are about the same, also almost no recoil with 5.45 so you can get in quick follow up shots.
