I'm heading to pick up a sr556 here Tuesday or Thursday. I'm looking to shoot 75-200yds, what scope should I go with? Any suggestions as to what I should do to the sr556 or leave it as is and add the scope?

You can do that with iron sights.

Depends on your budget. You can't go wrong with some sort of trijicon accupoint. If you want both short and medium range then go with either a TR-24 or TR-21 with triangle rectical aka "middle finger of death". If you want more of a precision medium to long range optic then a TR-20 mil-dot.

If your on a budget there are burris or millet scopes around the $200 range but of course the glass is not as good as a accupoint which I think is the best glass for under $1000. I think the budget scope of the month is the millet dms.

Get the scope, some decent rings (I like the larue spr-e) and then shoot the rifle. After you've shot it a while evaluate if it needs more work.

Yeah that's not much money really your two choices are the millet dms, and the burris xtr. Add in the rings and your in the 400 - 500 range. For guys starting out it's probably good enough. I've looked though them and after shooting accupoints I don't think I would be happy stepping down.

If you have the means budget $800 for a TR-21 and larue spr-e. It is way more scope.

if you have the eyes for it you can shoot out to 600. The NRA highpower guys go it all the time. My eyes cannot, I need magnification.
