Oh hi, Im new!

    Sup broly crew, i just started working out last week. Im currently using the "ripptoe" (sp?) workout routine.

    My question....after each workout i drink a thing of muscle milk...is this shit good for you? im trying to lean up.

    If not, any other alternatives? this shit is expensive.

    I used to use MM, too fatty and too many calories. Especially fi you're looking to get lean.

    Sure does taste good though.

    I doubt muscle milk will make or break his diet. Its fine.

    it's not so much that muscle milk won't make you lean, it's more what you eat throughout the day. i rather have more solid foods and a scoop of ON whey + supps than less food with muscle milk. on whey (or any other whey for that matter) is probably 1/3 the calories with the same amount of protein.

    If you're looking for something cheaper, just grab some regular whey. ON chocolate or syntha-6 are the general favorites around here, you can get them relatively cheap if you know where to look.

    My diet used to have very little fat to the point where my good cholesterol levels were lower than acceptable healthy levels and adding fat here and there did not have a drastic effect on my body fat... but butter may have been too extreme. :rofl:

    I started drinking it because i was ketogenic and just stuck with it. The macros where never outrageous so it didn't hurt my diet. I just don't get the hate. There is always room in a diet for butter :)

    at first it was high triglycerides (~3 yrs ago)

    then it everything was fine except the good cholesterol was low (~1 yr ago)

    Niacin (vit B3) is awesome for low HDL.. just don't go crazy with it, it's worse than fucking beta alanine.

    Fish oil is good for bringing down triglycerides

    One really good product is anything with plant stanol esters (products like Benacol, or you can buy capsules.) Basically interferes with cholesterol absorption in the gut and reduces total cholesterol by ~10%. Worth doing if you want to keep total cholesterol down.

    Yup.. in fact it's pretty much the only thing that does.

    You normally get anywhere between a 10% to 30% raise in HDL. That's more than you get from a prescription statin like lipitor

    You can also buy "flush free" niacin or you can take an aspirin beforehand to stop the burning!
