seriously why do we do this, it is never a logical discussion and it never changes any minds it is just a flamefest and it makes gun owners look like combative idiots.

Some people do end up realizing the err of their ways. Joe_Cool, soybomb, and a few other guys are extremely good at debating with these guys.

I just get upset and start name-calling...
(which is why I don't say a whole lot, usually... unless I can not name-call)

Speak for yourself, I've had people tell me I've made them see things differently. Sometimes all it takes is a well reasoned argument and less "from my cold dead heads/molon labe" I think the best value is in the spectators though. If I can have a debate with a hardcore anti guy and a couple fence sitters see that he's blubbering on about what people might do and dead babies while I'm posting links to the Texas DPS site with actual conviction rates of permit holders and FBI data on the actual number of people killed with assault rifles, I think that makes a strong impression. I'm most interested in getting those who are undecided or haven't cared enough to research gun control and I think I can utterly humiliate gun control proponents.

Keep up the good work, responsible gun owners everywhere owe you one. :h5:

Edit: I hope you don't mind I steal your arguments/points when debating with people IRL.

    :h5:

I used to argue like mad with MrBurner a few years back on gun control, and now I see him on here taking trips to the shooting range and making some of the same arguments to other people that I made to him. I feel like a proud daddy.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't really look at the picture. I thought the words were supposed to be the funny part.

What that picture real or not I can't remember. I mean the chicken wing is one thing but the backwards mag...that's hard to believe.

The chicken wing is nothing... I see more people shooting with a chicken wing than I do the more proper way.

"chicken wing" used to be the proper way. It wasn't til relatively recently that the elbows-in hold became more widely accepted.

Many places, including a fair number of police departments, I'd wager, still teach it as standard.

I have a problem with you saying there's "a proper way". The only "proper way" is to have the stock against your shoulder and your eye lined up with the sights. Everything else, the only "proper" thing is to hit the target.

One stance or another may be more POPULAR, but that doesn't make it THE WAY.
