Offtopic: Please help me get rid of this virus please!!

    security warning: your computer may be infected with harmful or unwanted software!

    wtf? i've tried everything and nothing seems to get this booger.

    ITs a red exclamation mark with a red circle right next to my clock on the bottom right.

    please!

    a)your infected with virii, run online virus scanner to double check. Remove the virus, re-install, or get used to the warning.

    b)your infected with spy-ware/ad-ware...Find an online spy-ware scanner. Remove the virus, re-install, or get used to the warning.

    1) Download Spybot
    2) Install it
    3) Download Spybot updates
    4) Reboot computer in safe mode
    5) Scan computer using Spybot
    6) Reboot back into normal Windows
    7) ??????
    8) Profit

    Right click on the red exclamation mark to see what it tells you.

    You either have an antispyware/antivirus program doing that, or you inadvertently downloaded some " Buy me and I'll fix this" type of bogus antispyware program.

    It's a trojan, not spyware or virus. I can't remember what I used to remove it. I think it was Spy Sweeper or AVG.

    I think I've seen that on a machine I have worked on before.

    Look for any un-recognized processes that are running. I believe I Googled the name of it and found how to remove it.
