Does an offline instant messenger exist? One that makes it look like I'm on an IM and people can message me and read my profile/away message but my computer is actually turned off.

    Thanks

ICQ used to be like that, I don't know what its like now. It was the greatest until AOL bought them :(.

AIM 6.0 supports offline instant messaging.

I downloaded 6.0 (looks pretty neat by the way). I'm not sure how offline messaging works.

Can only other 6.0 users message me while offline?
What if my computer is turned off, while I still receive IM's?

I tried it with a friend and I didn't receive his IM while I had signed off of aim.

What's this for? Does it not matter what network you're on - i.e. who can message you?

If not, you can use the Free Jabber. In fact, you can use Jabber anyhow, because of it's transport technology.

The offline messaging feature works fine for me -- it probably does require that both people be running 6.0, though.

    ICQ still supports offline messages

I hate not being able to message people on MSN when they're offline :(
