I'm going to watch it, but I don't want to feel like I have to force myself to watch it. I want to be excited and looking forward to it.

So tell me why it's great and help me get pumped up to start watching a new show.

The don't have a single plot hole in the entire show. I loved how it would mention something in season one and come back to it Season 5.

Season 1 is ok, but keep through it and it starts to get really interesting starting in Season 2. Season 1 has a "problem of the week" but by the end of the second season and beyond, it's completely story-driven.

Season 1 is the setup for the rest of the series. Instead of rushing to establish characters to get the story rolling, Straczynski used the first season to get you to know the characters.

It's was show designed to last only 5 seasons and Straczynski kept a tight hold on the story so like lowfat said, stuff mentioned in season 1 is just as important and comes to full circle in season 5.

Vorlons and Shadows are some of the coolest aliens that I've ever seen in sci-fi.

In the fourth season, when you finally see a Vorlon in the "flesh", it's almost mind-blowing.

Also, the way they use psychics in the show is pretty cool, as well as the way they develop all of the alien cultures.

I don't want to give things away, but a few episodes I was in complete awe at where the story went. There were times where I would watch an episode and not stop thinking about for hours.

It also has a lot more background history than most other sci-fi's, which I found interesting.

All this talk has got me wanting to watch it again .

OO, start with 'The Gathering' which was a pilot/movie. Then watch the series. The rest of the movies are pretty meh, and you really don't need to watch them.

Think we could organize a group watch & discussion, sort of like a book club thing? Kind of like you & I did with Farscape, only with more people.

Did they ever finish up the "Crusade" series?

Well, guys, I'm starting Season 1 Episode 4. It's good, so far, but not great. It's no DS9 or Farscape. :mamoru:

My only real complaint is that Commander Sinclair sort of overacts with his voice. He talks like a stereotype superhero or old-time radio serial guy.

Definitely getting into it though. :)

Oh, and even though she was really pretty, the Japanese first officer from The Gathering was kind of a bad actress. Replacing her with Claudia Christian was a good call. :o

I liked both Farscape and DS9 more right off the bat than B5 so far. I'm still giving it a chance though. :)

After season 1 is where it gets good.

I have 1.5 more seasons of 24 to watch, then i will restart B5.

    Thread renamed.

I'm up to episode #8 of Season 1, and I like it. If it's true that Season 1 is weak and doesn't do anything but introduce the characters, then I have 2 things to say:

    1. They're doing a good job of introducing the characters, and
    2. I can't wait to see when it gets good. :eek3d:

I'll withhold my DS9 and Farscape comments until I see about half of Season 2, so that lowfat doesn't lynch me. :mamoru:

Unless it's a major spoiler, why did the Minbari surrender when they were winning?

Something else I find interesting in the new crop of scifi shows (DS9, Farscape, B5):

Not only are they all story-driven, but they all seem to address religion head-on, treating it as a serious issue, instead of brushing it aside as silly superstition, the way Star Trek: Next Generation did. Granted it's in a pantheistic, "all faiths are true and all roads lead to god" way that I as a Christian don't like, but it's definitely better than the condescending "enlightened atheist" view that TNG took: "oh, how quaint! They think they have a god!"

PS I'm on episode 10 now. The Jehovah's witnesses episode, where the people won't allow the doctor to perform surgery on their son because of their religious beliefs.

Also, I really like the concept of jump gates, as opposed to star trek where every ship in the galaxy is FTL capable.
