I'm a 1LT, senior in the BN, and waiting to pin CPT once the list is published from HRC. Iraq job was S9 spending CERP funds and general Civil Affairs work.

Now that we've redeployed, the job doesn't exist. I've been told by my BN XO that I don't have a job. My HHC CDR has said he isn't doing my OER, so I clearly am not working for him. My BN CDR asked me, this morning, if I had MCCC dates and RFO. Sure do.

Today....the BN CDR has all LT's meet at 1300 to discuss Officer Moves within the BN. A by-name list of who's going where and so forth. He goes through the ENTIRE list with no mention of my name at all. He asks if he missed anyone, looks at me..."ahh Noah, no change."

I don't think I've ever been treated with such disregard or insulted like that; and in front of my peers no less. If you don't have a job to begin with, than how can there be "no change?!"

Anyway...suggestions for how to address this? I'm departing to the MCCC in 5-6 months; the RFO is submitted now to get orders cut.

So what are you doing every day? Going to pt and leaving?

If so frigging enjoy it! Your OER will get completed don't worry.

And you can report early to your CCC up to 60 days. But you can take as much leave as you want before the 60 days. Theoretically you could PCS 120 days before your CCC starts, if you have that much leave.

lol. I would be too scared to just ghost out every day after PT, I can see someone freaking out right when they go to write your OER.

Yep...PT in the morning...change...show face for a few hours...pop smoke. Just bothers me to not be having a specific task/purpose.

Waiting on orders to be cut...figure I'll depart ~30 days before the start of the MCCC. We'll see.

I think we've talked about this before...

There are several issues here that I see. First things first - there always three sides to the story:

    1) Your side
    2) Their side
    3) What really happened

We're only operating off of your side, and while you may feel that you are accurately portraying what is going on, that may not be the case.

    - NOW - I'm not attacking, just hoping to get you in a reflective mood and hope that you can draw out your entire surroundings, not just the realized inputs.

With that said, here are the immediate problems:

    1) Your current job
    2) Your current rating scheme
    3) Your OER until now
    4) From now until MCCC

So how do we attack this?

You need a job, and you need it now.

Schedule an office call with the bn XO tomorrow. First question:

    1) Sir, what's up?

If that doesn't get an answer:

    2) Sir, I don't have a job. The HHC Cdr refuses to rate me, there is no S9 in Garrison, if you can't answer this, then I'll schedule an appointment with the Bn Cdr tomorrow and I'll be sure to let him know that you don't know the officer slate.

    3) If he balks, schedule an appointment with the Bn Cdr under Open Door policy. If you can't get one, then make an appointment with the Brigade XO.

This should get the ball rolling - any further guidance, send me a PM.

How long will this OER be for? And I would go to CCC as early as possible. Take the 60 days early. That time gets rolled up into your next oer anyways.

Our BN XO is out on leave and I'm taking tomorrow off (having car fixed). I've sent a message to our BN XO asking to discuss with him. No reply yet, which since he's on leave...go figure.

Plus it's a 4-day weekend for Hood folk. Thur-Sun off. I'm going to ask around Wednesday before we release and then tackle on Monday.

Still not very pleased with the situation I find myself. Privates on their first day know what they will be doing in their respective PLT.

This OER will be an annual if I remember correctly. Covering a part of XO and S9 roles deployed and re-deployment events.

When are you heading to CCC?

I think you are worrying about it too much. If you are going to CCC soon, and your OER is an annual (and actually has substantiated stuff in it). Then why worry about having a job for a few months? Sometimes the Army offers you to take a knee. Take it.

Maybe your XO/BC isn't slotting you anywhere, b/c they know you are leaving soon?

Maybe....I'm going to ask some questions tomorrow.

Taking a knee though...never really enjoyed that. I like working; as odd as it seems to say that.

This isn't a few months though, its a solid 6 months, half year. I like time off too, but that is far too long to go without purpose at a level when some feel LT's don't have enough time being developed as is. I would talk to the XO and Commander and if it doesn't get resolved start looking for a job. If a LT came down to me looking to work and was not slotted, I could find plenty for him to do*.

*- the worry is that you pissed off one of the higher ups for some reason and they will just get more pissed at you for doing this, but you don't seem to think that is the case...

And when he reports into his next duty station, he can convienently "forget" to sign into his unit and go AWOL for two years while some specialist in S1 crosses his name off the A-162 every month silently wondering who keeps putting this officers name on their A-162 when he CLEARLY doesn't work in that battalion. :mamoru:

Yes, this is a true story.

    XO still out on leave.

    BN CDR out on leave.

Met with my S3 for a bit today and he agrees that it's jacked up. He'll have an answer on Monday once everyone gets back.

We'll see what comes around....in the mean time enjoying the weekend!

Agreed if it was a month or two max I'd take the knee. Especially with outprocessing, movers, etc... that final weeks are busy with just personal stuff.

But if it's gonna be 6 months, then yes you need a job. S3 can always use more frago writers.

You might be basing that on the false assumption that he was still a LT when doing the police call.

it would be great if he made the promotion list to CPT while AWOL :o

from what I understand a commissioned officer cant be demoted into enlisted ranks

RSL/MAJOR/Turbo or whatever you are calling yourself:o updates on the LT doing police call. is he pending any action further than discharge?

Officers can't be demoted into enlisted rank. Further, i don't think they can even be demoted at all. Any JAG guys here?:noes:

I have always asked around about this. The only answer I get is that they "end their own careers" and leave the service at the earliest convenience to the Army
