Natchez chief: Officer in stable, serious condition after accidental shooting
    The Associated Press

NATCHEZ — A Natchez police officer is in serious but stable condition after shooting himself while cleaning his gun.

Clifton Eric Kaho had surgery Wednesday in Natchez after shooting himself in the chest, then was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins says Kaho’s heart rate and breathing are stable but that he remains in serious condition.

Mullins says the department is investigating the shooting, but that it appears the 29-year-old was cleaning his gun as he prepared to return to work Wednesday after six weeks off. He had been out with a knee injury.

The weapon was a department-issued Glock 9mm semiautomatic.

Mullins says it appears he had already cleaned the gun and reassembled it when the accident happened.

A lot of "gun cleaning accidents" are really suicide attempts.

yeah sounds like a suicide attempt to me.

How the hell can cleaning a gun cause this?? I don't buy that at all. Looks like their just trying to give the guy a break...he's obviously screwed up. Hope they can help him before he succeeds with his next attempt.

    :suicide:

seriously though. a) he had already cleaned it, and b) HOW THE FUCK DO YOU POINT A GUN AT YOUR CHEST TO CLEAN IT?

what I'm really waiting for is an ariticle shooting himself in the head with a rifle and they try and claim that he was cleaning it.

besides suicide attempts, i often wonder if it is just people just becoming way too lazy with firearm safety

i am so fucking paranoid when i handle my firearm, loaded, unloaded and even when it is disassembled. i just don't get it

Reason #3,256 that when I start cleaning I have my gun in one room and my ammo in another.

There are two kinds of gun owners....

One that has already had a ND/AD
One that will have a ND/AD

    haha same here.

My gun is only loaded at night because of this. Other times, the mag is very close by but I don't keep one in the chamber.

I guess I'm just too paranoid about it going off when I don't want it to.

I don't agree with that statement. I feel that expecting a future ND or AD lowers your level of caution.

What's ND/AD?? I assume the AD = accidental discharge but what is ND? No-tampon Discharge? sorry...that's just gross.

Well a true AD you can't do much to prevent, just follow the rules of safe gun handling so noones injured.

true ADs are when stuff actually breaks. Most ADs are actually NDs.

If it was a suicide attempt, he probably would have gone for a headshot.

    nice:naughty:

On the other hand, I've heard that some people will shoot themselves in the chest so they can have an open casket.:dunno:
LEO's usually don't attempt suicide - they usually go right ahead
