GUN Obscure Cartridge v. WhatTheHellIsIt?

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Market Garden, May 4, 2009.

  1. My dad always picks up interesting and unusual brass he finds lying around when we shoot near my parents' cabin. I was looking through some of it this weekend and came across this... Judging by the LC headstamp and the fact that all the diameters match 5.56 brass, I'm guessing this is what it's based on. The case mouth is sized right for a .30cal bullet. Anyone have any idea what cartridge this is?

Also, I like how tall our backstop is when we shoot. I don't have to worry about Laurel accidentally shooting over it. :mamoru:

This is most likely the answer.

I have a set of dies coming this week for 300 whisper :eek3:

  6. Sorry, I meant the rim diameter, and the case diameter up to where it was cut down.

  7. Sweet. Sometimes we find some really neat stuff up there.

  8. Actually, I should have measured the case length, but the .300 Whisper case looks longer than this case.

  11. Thanks. I've never hunted anything but birds with air rifles. We've got bears, cougars, wolves, deer, coyotes (we saw a big one today) and all manner of other wildlife up there though. I've seen lots of bears.

no, I am just surprised. you should try it

I assume nobody in the family does, hence you've not had the opportunity?

after 15 years of gutting/butchering, it never gets "fun". and its a lot different than fish. real easy to taint a deer

  20. That's for sure. Last time I ate game someone shot it was awful, God only knows how long they left it before they dressed it.

not even that, but hitting the bladder or other organ, not getting it stored/butchered quickly enough (not a problem here MOST winters), all the way down to just getting used to the flavor of different variants of game.

get a chicken and kill it. that's a good start. everyone should be able to kill and fix a chicken
