I have to say I've been pretty disappointed with the quality of tattoos here in the city. The studios back home in Buffalo were better than just about every studio I've seen here to be honest. There's a few that are really good places here, like Adorned and King's Avenue (www.myspace.com/kingsavenue), but even then they're pretty traditional. Not sure what you're looking for, but I was disappointed when I came here and saw that there don't seem to be a lot of people trying to push the envelopes of tattooing like there were back home or out West.

Although I do notice that when I go to Brooklyn the general quality of the art is much higher than in Manhattan; I've seen some really cool and unique pieces down there. But I don't know Brooklyn well at all, so I'm not sure what's down there besides Adorned. Sorry, I realize this post was absolutely no help, I just wanted to vent a bit.

I've, too, noticed a serious lack of good tattoo shops...particularly for a city of this caliber...

you guys just aren't looking very hard if you are that disappointed by what you see in NYC. Adorned is very good on the whole, but there are a lot of other shops that are much better. You just have to look. I'm on my iPhone otherwise I would post some links.

chizzle what style of work are you looking for? I have a couple references for top notch guys in NYC that aren't always in shops since they travel worldwide to tattoo...but it's very dependent on the kind of style you want

I'm planning on two, one is asian influence the latter is old-school classic tattoo influence.

Honestly, I haven't really had the opportunity to really look because I've been incredibly busy (minus when I'm wasting time on ot :hs: ) but from what I've found online, not much noise as far as nyc goes...

2 over-priced and over-rated artists. There's much better out there.

Looks like a good shop, it's rather far though.

I just find it hard to believe that the entire island + brooklyn/queens doesn't have something to offer...

I got my half sleeve done at Invisible NYC. Great fucking shop...

And also have tattoos lined up at both saved and daredevil. All great shops.

this was just from yelling "hey, name some NYC shops assholes" out loud at the shop i work at ... do some research and you'll find many more good shops in that area.

Haha, a lot of the ones you posted look decent. It's just hard to judge places unless they have some semblance of a portfolio online...and to tell you the truth, I trust you guys recommending me a place more.
