I was reading thefashionspot forums to see what people thought about what was shown on the runways for ss 2008

This post from a user who was attempting to make sense of and describe the colors used stuck out to me:
Beautiful, isn't it? So what do you guys think of what you saw on the runways for SS 2008?

yeah. i dont even really understand the point of them. 98% of the stuff is just waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out there stuff that never sees production anyway. what's the point?

well, its a presentation. its like car companies coming out with concept cars at the geneva auto show: its to show you what theyre capable of. you dont really have to walk around looking runway 24/7.

yeah but many concept cars make it into production and actually look cool...runway fashion on the otherhand, not so much

kind of depends i think. sometimes most of an outfit is ridiculous, but the pants look good, or a sweater is nice. i havent looked at any of the womens collections, but ive been suprised at how wearable most of the mens stuff is.

i love varvatos' clothes for spring

maybe you are thinking more of haute couture which is more fashion as art. the ready-to-wear runway stuff often influences clothes that you see in retail. a professor of mine was explaining to us that car companies often look to the fashion runways for color trends

some examples of recent trends that came straight off of the runway:
    - skinny jean trend that popped up on runways for ss04
    - now high waisted trousers
    - nautical stuff last spring
    - black, opaque leggings last fall
    - empire waist stuff for women last spring

As for mens stuff, Hedi Slimane brought back the skinny silhouette [inspired by Pete Doherty] through Dior Homme..so that it was fashionable for men to wear slim fitted clothes. amen to that, because i think style lab knows how much i love my waifish, skinny guys in slim fitted clothes

Just looked at his diary online. Definitely seems to be Libertines/British Indie rock inspired, judging by the pics of Carl Barat etc on there.

It's my first fashion week :) Got to new york without a book or cards to give to the casting directors. It really sucked.

I booked adam+eve, duckie brown, buckler, and betsey johnson. Couldn't do a+e because duckie booked me 20 mins prior and the shows ran into each other.

It was so much fun. It's really chaotic backstage, but when it finally comes together it's really rewarding.

Also met mario testino at his book release party. Cool stuff.

If anyone gives a shit about my vids -
I don't think the buckler video is up yet, but duckie brown:

(i'm 12th out, hands in pockets, red pants white shirt)

betsey johnson: ('m only in this video for literally half a second. first out, wearing a white tux top and black pants)

i love betsey johnson! the clothes remind me of playing dressup, cupcakes and frosting, marie antoinette [the movie], and the pretty pretty princess game. her clothes are so fun and girly

congrats on getting booked for ny fashion weeek!
