NRA Museum vs Air and Space? I think I might do just the NRA because I only have the morning and I don't think parking will be too bad.

Going to a concert in Baltimore on a Friday night looking to head into NOVA early Sat before heading home.

NRA Museum is in Fairfax off Route 66, the Air & Space museum is near the Airport in Dulles, which is also fairly accessible off 66. I would hit the museum first, early, then hit the museum (if you are coming from the east it makes sense). Budget a lot of time for the Air & Space museum. It's a huge building with a lot to see.

Looks like that is the way to go. I don't want to hassle finding parking in DC when I am on a tight schedule.

I will plan on getting there as soon as they open. Should be a good time. Can you rent at the NRA range? I'd bring my own firearms but I have to stay in MD overnight.

Dont go to Air and Space in DC, go to the one out at Dulles airport, which isnt far from NRA. Its the Udvar Hazy exhibit and its MUCH better than the one downtown. This is the one with Concorde, Space Shuttle and the SR71 in it. There will be no problem parking.

I'd personally, rather go to Udvar Hazy than the NRA, but both are cool.

+1 You'll see a lot more in a given amount of time here.
I went right after it opened, and they were still moving a lot of stuff into the building.

If you go to the Udvar Hazy, it will not be a problem, its NOT in DC, its a different facility out near Dulles Airport in VA. There is plenty of parking and its in a huge hangar like facility.

I just realized I wrote: "I would hit the museum first, early, then hit the museum" :hsugh: Sound advice there.

AIR AND SPACE first. The Dulles annex. Parking is expensive, like $12 or something, but the museum itself is free. Then hit the NRA museum on the way back.

The one in DC was amazing until they opened the Hazy one out at Dulles. It is, IMO, the most amazing Museum you will ever see.

Parking is cake because it's next to the airport with it's own gigantic parking lot. However, you pay like $12 for parking. It's never really packed because the thing is so damn huge. You can be through it in less than 3 hours.

The NRA museum is ok I guess. Nice to see once, but never again.

Ok here let me make sure I have this correctly. You are saying skip the American History and Air and Space on the mall, go to Dulles then to the NRA museum.

If I find myself down there again odds are I won't be with someone who shares an interest in firearms that is why I want to go this time.

Well, sort of. There is not a substitute for the American History museum, and it was recently redone. But if you are choosing between the Air & Space in DC and the Air & Space Annex in Virginia, I would hit Virginia. It will also permit you to go to the NRA Museum the same day - because they are both close to 66 - which would otherwise probably be impossible. You can see the NRA building from 66, and the Annex is a few miles off 66 near Dulles.
