Hello, Finally going to get my first laptop. Mainly curious about brand recommendations, not specific models (unless you really like yours)

    My choices in order are:

    Toshiba or IBM

    Dell

    Acer

    Hp

    Fujitsu.

Will be a general use comp, mostly school, some photoshop, occasionally gaming but not main use.

    Any advice? Thanks

I like Dell. I've had both the e1505 and d820, both should do well for the tasks you mentioned. I have always gotten the completedare warranty for my laptops which covers accidental damage. I've been happy with my next day service from Dell (or whoever they contract out to in SF) Not a big fan of Dell's technical support, but their support forums are usually sufficient for any troubleshooting I have to do.

Most computer people I know are rocking Dell. But a few are using the Thinkpad T Series. He too gets very prompt service from IBM.
