I heard it was a shit show. I know there is a video of it somewhere online.
props to Zuckerberg. Youngest self-made billionaire ever.
by stealing the code for facebook from some of his classmates
or so the story goes
Not all that different than microsoft and apples beginnings.
It's competition. IBM was dumb in selling Microsoft the technology. The great companies use the tools they see necessary to their fullest capability. Zuckerberg's buddies didn't realize the value of their code and didn't guard it safely enough as a result. Whether he used it as inspiration or flat-out stole it is beyond me.
Regardless, they didn't take action and he did.
Even if he did steal the code, the website still sucks.
A site doesn't have to be amazing to have value. It's all about whether it gives the users what they want. Sucks for the design nazi's and gives the crappy designers a lucky break, but that's just how it is. I have a feeling web users will eventually catch up and begin getting the same impressions from websites as they do retail businesses; if it doesn't look great, they won't shop there.
I thought Bill Gates bought PC-DOS, or was it DR-DOS, and sold it to IBM when they needed an OS for their PC?
More power to Zuckerberg, but he's not a billionaire yet until the company is sold.
I think you read too much into my comment. Facebook fucking sucks. It's a joke. All it is is a fucking popularity contest. Hence, why I got rid of mine.
I am really not into the whole social networking "connecting to network/hookup/etc" bullshit game, but I keep myspace around for a few friends whom I know never answer their phones.
That's enough for me. I don't need bebo, myspace, facebook, and all the other hundred social networking sites to check everyday when I can do the same with just one of them.
Seems I did read too much into it. I do think you're right; the trend of social networks is a bit ridiculous and many are taken beyond the scope of what is useful. However, anything is what you make of it. Some people depend on these sites for their livelihood.
its not about what you personally believe, the fact remains that 67 million active users is quite an accomplishment for a shit site.
Im not buying the stolen code either, if that was the case im sure there are hundreds of low life lawyers willing to take on their case for a portion of Mark's bucks.
Social websites are here to stay. At least its not as gayed up as myspace is.
Supposedly its worth 263,900,000.00.
