If you book a table for say 10 people. no deposit taken, or card details..

    and totally forget.....

my bro's miss's has done this...now the guy has taken her to court... cos of the failure to turn up..

can he claim compensation for the loss of earnings?

    ahahahahaha!!

guy is a jackass and is going to (at best) lose, or (at worst) get screamed at by a judge for a while and get charged for wasting the court's time, and then lose.

Ya he'll lose but a lot of restaurants now charge you a fee (And let you know before you finalise the reservation) in case of a large party not showing up. They especially enforce this around the dinner and lunch rush.

But your bro's miss is a dick for doing that. Certain rare circumstances excluded.

    Wow... just wow.

I just don't get the kind of people who do shit like that, are they just trying to prove that they're trailer trash assholes?

No offense to you but you need to knock some sense into your brother. I don't mean for you to take that literally, but just let him know that what he's doing is stupid and he should just drop it before he embarasses himself. I would understand if you tried to do that to a co-worker you don't like but not to your S/O.

As a former restaurant owner, I can see it from the angle of the owner. In my business, the average dinner ran about 60-80 bucks per person. To hold a table for 10 with no compensation, no call so I could actually use the talbe for the regular guests (considering turnover of at least two to three times during the dinner service), this cost the restaurant on average $1750.00 in food sales, not to mention alcohol and wine sales on top of that. When you look at it that way, her ignorance and outright disrespect for the businsess cost them quite a bit of revenue, not to mention their waitstaff that were scheduled to handle the party and expected to be paid for their time.

I may have been tempted to sue as well, if this happened more than once. She would definitely be blackballed from every decent restaurant in town. Good luck getting reservations anywhere better than Denny's from now on.

    love the grandstanding  .......

"Hi, this is Stacey calling for a reservation."
"STACEY! YOU ARE BLACKBALLED FROM MAKING RESERVATIONS!"
    <click>

    5 min later
"Hi, this is.....uh......TRACEY......calling for a reservation."
"Sure, we'd LOVE to, how many people?"

agreed. this is the reason many restaurants in my area don't even take reservations. people just don't show up and now they've been leaving a table open that could have been making money.

don't think it is fair to the restaurant

but on the other side, why can't the restaurant just forfeit your brother's miss's booking if she has not turned up by certain time?

Do you always go senile-psychobitch every time someone trolls you hard enough?

How much work is it REALLY to move a table and change a table cloth?
Ouch 5min of bussboy compensation lost.

And once they dont show up for their reservation, you start losing the table.
Ouch 30min of a table not being used

And if you "could be using that table for someone else" then your waiters will still have people to wait on.

You lose, at most, 1 man hour.

No. That's why many restaurants say that your reservation is void if you're more than 15 minutes late.

haha....if we even took a reservation, we would to tell them it would be gone if they weren't here 15 mins BEFORE their reservation time. Ppl would complain all the time about that but we just thought...fuck em....we're busy enough we don't need their reservations. We'll sell out every single table, every single weekend night.

No offense to you on this, my comment has someone else in mind for the harsh tone behind it.

But restaurant owners really believe they have more pull than they actually do. When I was 15 I was a bus boy. When I got fired I distinctly remember the owner telling to not even bother looking for another job in food service, that because of him I would never work in that town again.

Needless to say, no where i applied at afterwords gave two shits what he had to say about me.

And in this case, a restaurant owner would much rather take the risk of you not showing up, than pass up the opportunity for a big billed party.

The judge will throw him out of court. There was no contract. Was the guy Middle Eastern, or Eastern European?

That hour loss would really suck for that waiter though.

It's a shitty thing to do, but there's no way the restaurant owner is gonna get anything in court.

People are fucking sue happy. You look at someone the wrong way and you can almost expect them to try and sue you for it.
